This tour within the Indio Maíz Biological Reserve is about living for two days and one night in harmony with the village of Rama and with nature and its entire splendor. We take the Indio River and visit the Manatee Lagoon where we can observe these peculiar mammals.
In addition, during the tour one can appreciate a great deal of local wildlife like monkeys, toucans, golden orioles or parrots.
After, we will arrive at a traditional Rama home where we will be staying. We will visit the community and learn about their ways of life and about their self-sufficient farming. Then we will prepare a fire cooked meal where we will enjoy local cooking.
On the next day, early after breakfast, we will hike through the primary forest of the Indio Maíz Biological Reserve. Here, we will observe jointed rock formations stones of basaltic origins. The people of Rama claim these rocks are old pyramids of their ancestors.
Around noon, we will have lunch prepared by the Rama people who mainly cook with seafood and later, around one in the afternoon, we will arrive at the Afro-Caribbean community of La Cangrejera located between the Caribbean Sea and the Indio River.
This will be the last stop on our route before turning back to San Juan de Nicaragua.
